Many dogs are prone to chronic ear infections. In some cases, a diet change, elimination of parasites, or blood testing for hormonal disorders may resolve the problem. In others, regular cleaning and occasional treatment with ear medication will control inflammation. However, prescription medications may not be sufficient if the infection is severe. In severe or chronic cases, we recommend ear flushing to remove build-up of debris and organisms. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia, using a modern instrument designed for this purpose. Ear flushing improves the outcome of treatment by providing immediate relief and allowing medication to reach the source of infection.
