At the Colonial Veterinary Hospital, we recommend bloodwork prior to any general anesthetic. This important step allows us to evaluate your pet’s health before surgery, including liver and kidney function, and indications of anemia or infection. Depending on the results of the bloodwork, changes may be made to the type of anesthetic administered. In some cases, surgery may be delayed until the source of bloodwork abnormalities is determined. After surgery the patient is closely monitored until fully awake.
